About the area

Why people love Almuñécar & Costa Tropical

East of Nerja the coast enters the province of Granada and becomes the Costa Tropical. The mountains come right down to the sea, protecting a subtropical microclimate where mangos, avocados and cherimoyas grow. Almuñécar is the main town, with a castle, an old town and long beaches, and La Herradura next door has one of the most beautiful bays on the coast.

Prices are lower than on the Costa del Sol, and life is calmer and more Spanish. From here you can reach the Alhambra in Granada in about an hour – and the Sierra Nevada, where you can ski in winter. The area on our website also covers homes up in the mountains and around Granada.

Who is it for?

  • Value seekers – sea views at lower prices
  • Winter living – one of Europe’s mildest climates
  • Active people – diving, hiking and skiing in Sierra Nevada
  • Culture lovers – Granada and the Alhambra about an hour away
